About

Welcome to my blog. I am so glad you stopped by!

Here are some fascinating facts about me:

1. I live in the South with my husband (Hugh – my lovely, bearded man!), my three young children, and a large American Shorthair cat named Pippin.

2.  I teach junior high at a private Christian school.  When I say I teach junior high, most people look at me with a great deal of sympathy.  But I absolutely love teaching these students!  My students are just beginning to really understand how to think critically and to develop their own relationships with Jesus. Awesome!

3. I love, love, love to read. This has led to a really unhealthy relationship with Amazon.com (and Amazon Prime, the horrible “pay-80-dollars-a-year-and-get-free-two-day-shipping-on-everything” program).

4. I am passionate about sharing what God is currently talking to me about in my life. Whether He is convicting me, pouring love on me, or leading me through hard memories of my painful childhood – I love to talk about how He is showing His faithfulness to me in all of it.

5. Speaking of the Lord, I love to talk about prayer.  I love writing about (and periodically giving away!) prayer notebooks and prayer baskets.

6. I try to be funny in some of my posts, though sometimes when I reread what I write, I realize I think I am a lot funnier than other people do.

7.  I have the bestest best friend in the ENTIRE world (do you see her picture at the top of this page? Isn’t she fun?).  Amanda has walked with me through so many difficult times in my life, constantly reminding me to follow Christ and turn wholeheartedly to Him in all things.  I am so blessed to have her in my life.

I am so excited you are reading my About! Have a fantastic day!

    My Dear Sister-in-Christ,
Love the way you love the Lord! You are an encouragement and inspiration to us all. :) Don’t take that nasty bait from the enemy. You are stronger than him because of 1 John 4:4. He’s got it covered.
Thanks for being so transparent. I need someone who can relate to this fleshly struggle.
    Love ya tons,

    Hi Jessica,
I truly enjoy reading through your blog! Thank you for sharing; I am blessed & happy that God has brought your blog to my attention! I’ve added you to my bloglist – hope that’s okay! And I had a quick question as I’m new to WordPress (was using another service before)… how did you get the “Book’s I’m Currently Reading” on your sidebar?

I just ran across your blog and wanted to tell you how much I enjoy it. So many people’s blogs are the same old thing all the time; yours is real and it is just the kind of stuff I want to read. It is very encouraging and I can relate! Good job on getting yourself out there and letting others see the real you! Keep on writing and I will be back!

    God Bless

You have inspired me in many ways since I have started reading your blog. I was trying to do the prayer journal this year as one of my new habits and find that I am having trouble getting this started. I know you have talked a lot about using a prayer journal and was hoping that you might have some advice for me. Please e-mail me or leave a comment on my blog with any advice you might have for me. Thanks so much.

    hey Jess,
I met you a week or two ago walking along with Kelly Hubatka. I’m thinking of people that would be good in the praise pit for the live recording February 10th and I know that there have been several times on Sunday mornings when I do background vocals on stage that I notice you and your husband worshiping. I think you guys have an amazing energy and passion for God and Elevation, and it would be cool if you guys were in the praise pit. If you’re planning on going to the recording, if you could give me your email address so that I could pass it along, that’d be great. My e-mail is wrshphim14@aol.com. Thanks.

p.s. your blog is awesome, too!

I don’t remember which blog I was reading when I ran into yours. The title called my attention. And today, I came back to check it out and saw your testimony about prayer. Who knows if I will ever meet you (especially since I live in the NW!) but know that you are an encouragement to me. Thank you for being so honest and sharing from your heart! Keep up the writing. ;-)

Just wanted to say “thank you” for this site. While as a guy I had to quickly skip past anything having to do with shaving and waxing :) , learning about your background and struggle to be a better Christian has encouraged me in my own “pilgrim’s quest.”

Keep up the good work and best wishes to you, Hugh and the kids.
